The Kalamazoo Justice Project was born out of lived experience with housing discrimination and the fight for fairness in Kalamazoo’s housing system.
What began as one person’s struggle against unsafe conditions, retaliation, and court misconduct has grown into a platform that documents these stories and connects them to the bigger history of housing inequity in our community.
Our Mission
- Defend civil and human rights in housing.
- Support HUD-assisted and low-income families.
- Expose retaliation and conflicts of interest.
- Push for fair housing policy reform in Kalamazoo and beyond.
Who We Are
The Kalamazoo Justice Project was founded by Jennifer L. Dayton, a former teacher, small business owner, and housing justice advocate.
After experiencing harassment, eviction, and homelessness while raising two children, Jennifer turned her personal fight into a public mission: to shine light on corruption, share resources, and make sure no tenant feels alone.
What We Do
- Publish blogs and first-hand accounts connecting personal stories to systemic housing issues.
- Provide resources and guidance for tenants facing HUD or court struggles.
- Create a community space for residents to share experiences and support each other.
